Smash Factor Softballs™

Flies like a baseball, hits like a plyo!

The Smash Factor Ball™ closely mimics the flight of an actual baseball out of a pitching machine but has enough “give” to feedback to hitters how well they’ve squared a ball up (like a plyo). All without ever hurting hands or breaking bats.

How It Works

Exaggerated feedback at game speed

Smash Factor Balls are built from high-density polyurethane foam with enough give to amplify the difference between good contact and bad contact. A real baseball masks mishits — it'll still carry on an off-center swing. A Smash Factor Ball punishes mishits visibly and rewards square contact with exit velocities that match or exceed a regulation ball.

The feedback is binary and immediate. No ambiguity. After a few rounds, your hitters self-correct because the ball is telling them the truth on every swing.

Slide image

Squared Up

Ball takes off. Clean line drive with maximum exit velocity and realistic trajectory.

Slide image

Under It

Extreme popup. Ball goes straight up — exaggerated backspin from hitting under the center of mass.

Slide image

On Top

Topspin dive. Ball hammers into the ground — immediate feedback on a bat path that's too steep.

Slide image

Glancing

Wild hook or slice. Off-center contact produces extreme spin that a real baseball would hide.

Three versions, same feedback principle

BUILT TO TRAIN FEARLESS HITTERS

The Driveline Difference

Fear is the biggest obstacle to bat-to-ball skill at game speed — fear of getting jammed, breaking a bat, or feeling the sting. Hitters protect themselves by bailing, cheating, or shortening their swing, training the wrong pattern in the process.

Smash Factor Balls remove that fear entirely. Zero hand pain on jammed swings. Zero broken bats. Hitters can take a full, uninhibited swing against 95+ mph — enabling the high-volume training (1,000+ swings/week) Driveline hitters rely on, without the wear on hands, grip, or equipment.

Available in Leather, with Trackman-matched flight for true-to-life live BP, and Softball, bringing that same fear-free training approach to the softball swing.

Behind The Design

Slide image

High-density polyurethane foam core

The give that creates the feedback mechanism across every Smash Factor ball — V2, Leather, and Softball alike. Compresses differently based on how square the contact is, amplifying the difference between good swings and bad ones.

Slide image

Regulation diameter (2.9" baseball / 12" softball)

Each version matches its regulation counterpart — 2.9" for the V2 and Leather baseballs, 12" for the Softball. Hitters see the same pitch tunnel and the same visual cues; the only difference is what happens after contact.

Slide image

Lightweight across every version

Every version is lighter than its regulation counterpart — 3 oz for the V2, 4 oz for the Leather ball, and softball-weight foam for the Softball. Retains game-like velocity out of pitching machines while being soft enough to eliminate hand pain and bat damage entirely.

Slide image

1,000+ hit durability

Every version — V2, Leather, and Softball — is built to withstand 1,000+ hits or machine reps without losing shape or feedback quality. The leather cover specifically adds Trackman-matched flight trajectories for realistic carry, break, and movement during live BP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Need more info? Please reach out to support@drivelinebaseball.com so we can help!

Should I get V2 or Leather?

V2 is the workhorse — designed for pitching machine work at high volume. Leather is built for live BP where flight fidelity matters. Start with V2 for the cage; add Leather for BP.

Will they damaged my bat?

No. The foam is too soft to damage any bat — wood, composite, or aluminum. You can get jammed 20 straight times with zero damage and zero sting in your hands.

What machines are compatible?

Standard pitching machines. Clean wheels regularly — dirty wheels degrade balls faster. Break in with front toss before first machine use.

Starter or Advanced?

1,000+ uses per ball in a pitching machine. A dozen typically lasts several months of daily use. Rotate balls regularly and store indoors in a cool, dry place.

What age is appropriate?

All ages. Used with athletes as young as 8 (often afraid of real baseballs at machine speed) through MLB hitters training against 100+ mph.

How are these different from Hitting PlyoCare Balls?

Hitting PlyoCare Balls are small, deformable balls for tee and front toss at low speeds — they train contact quality at reduced velocity. Smash Factor Balls are regulation-sized for the pitching machine at game speed. Sequential steps in the same progression: PlyoCare builds the pattern, Smash Factor pressure-tests it.
