Driveline Jersey Wall - Bazzana

Baseball development isn’t a sprint – it’s a marathon. At Driveline, our data consistently shows that players who commit to at least 12 months of training experience life-changing improvements that shorter programs simply can’t deliver. Here’s why a full year matters and what you can expect along the way.

Why 12 Months?

The baseball development cycle follows natural biological and skill acquisition timelines that can’t be rushed:

  • Physical Development: Building the 20% strength/power differential between high school and college players requires multiple training cycles
  • Skill Mastery: Technical changes need time to be introduced, refined, and transferred to game situations
  • Complete Baseball Calendar: A full year aligns with the natural baseball seasons (off-season, pre-season, in-season, transition)
  • Data-Backed Results: Our metrics show exponential rather than linear improvements when players commit to 12+ months

The Power of Commitment

2024’s first overall MLB draft pick Travis Bazzana embodies the transformative power of long-term development. His Driveline journey wasn’t measured in weeks or months, but in years—beginning at age 13 when he first connected with our training through Baseball Australia. As a teenager, he committed to our bat speed program multiple times weekly for 2-3 years, literally wearing down his Driveline bats until “the grips were absolutely ruined” in his pursuit of improvement.

This dedication culminated in a defining career decision after his freshman year: forgoing the prestigious Cape Cod League—traditionally considered essential exposure for elite prospects—to instead train at Driveline. While other top prospects were seeking quick validation and visibility, Bazzana made the bold choice to invest in his development: “I felt like playing games would build my floor but training would build my ceiling. Why would I play all this time just to be a third rounder? I want to aim higher than that.”

This wasn’t a quick fix—it required months of systematic work. The initial swing reconstruction alone took 5-6 weeks, followed by continued refinement that added 8-10 mph to his bat speed while improving his contact quality. Through years of consistent training and regular assessment cycles, Bazzana transformed from a solid prospect with a “third-round ceiling” into Oregon State’s all-time home run leader and ultimately the #1 overall selection by the Cleveland Guardians.

As Bazzana himself explains: “You don’t just get better with every day of training. It’s about knowing that it’s a long-term vision and knowing that it’s a process and you trust it.” His journey exemplifies why meaningful development requires not just commitment to training, but commitment to the full developmental timeline that produces truly exceptional results.

Beyond Year One

Many of our athletes continue their development journey beyond the initial 12 months. With a solid foundation established, subsequent years often focus on:

  • Refining specific skills to elite levels
  • Addressing secondary development priorities
  • Advanced application of baseball skills in competitive settings
  • Injury prevention and career longevity
